America's Beloved Heroes

ANNIE was named for ANNE MARIE McHUGH, who paid the ultimate price in the attack on America September 11, 2001. Ann McHugh, age 35, New York, New York, was employed by Euro Brokers Inc. and reportedly lost her life at the World Trade Center, where she worked on the 84th floor of the south tower. Though Ms. McHugh was born in the United States, her family moved to Ireland when she was a child. She then moved back to the U.S. when she was 19 but traveled home to Ireland often. Her cousin writes, "Her immediate family lives in Ireland but she has an extensive connection of relatives here in the US, where she was born. Her parents are naturalized US citizens, and her father is a US Army veteran from the Vietnam War period. Our family's hometown in Ireland built a little memorial park for her and the September 11 victims." Ms. McHugh's grandmother is still alive at 97 in Ireland, whose mother was in America for years and is marked at Ellis Island. Ms. McHugh enjoyed life and made friends quickly. Ms. McHugh was creative, artistic, and an avid reader. She survived the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center. At the time of 2001 attack, Ms. McHugh was engaged to be married. The wedding was set for just 3 weeks after that horrible tragedy that took her life. Ms. McHugh is survived by her fiance, Patrick; parents, Padraig and Margaret; brothers, Patrick and Brendan; and sister, Maura. We salute Ms. McHugh, a hero, and name this beautiful Siberian Husky in her honor.
