BUD was named for LT. COL. CANFIELD D. "BUD" BOONE, who paid the ultimate price in the attack on America September 11, 2001. Lt. Col. Bud Boone, age 53, Clifton, Virginia, lost his life at the Pentagon in the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Having served in the Army 31 years, he was employed as a policy integrator assigned to the Army's Office of Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel on the second floor of the Pentagon. Born and raised in Milan, Indiana, he graduated from Butler University in the same state. Interred in Arlington National Cemetery, Colonel Boone was awarded the Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit posthumously. Colonel Boone had a keen sense of humor, which included constant whistling; a great code of moral justice; and always tried to do the right thing. He believed in what he did and practiced the fine art of selflessness. Besides his military pursuits and patriotism, Colonel Boone enjoyed sports and singing, both within a barbershop quartet and Centreville Presbyterian Church choir. Colonel Boone, whose lineage goes back to the brother of Daniel Boone, is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda, and sons Chris, Andy, and Jason. We salute Colonel Boone, a hero, and name this handsome dog in his honor. (Source: The Baltimore Sun 9/27/01, The Chicago Tribune 9/27/01, a coworker)
