America's Beloved Heroes

FITZ was named for RICHARD P. FITZSIMONS, who paid the ultimate price in the attack on America September 11, 2001. Richard Fitzsimons, age 57, Lynbrook, New York, a retired New York City firefighter, employed by OCS Security as a fire safety officer for the World Trade Center, had just finished evacuation of the children in the World Trade Center's Day Care Center on that fateful day, and was last seen heading toward a sub-basement to assist in further rescue efforts. Mr. Fitzsimons enjoyed golf and ice hockey. A 1978 graduate of Hofstra University, Mr. Fitzsimons stayed young by doing new things. Two years prior to the tragedy that zapped his life, he started piano lessons. He also studied Gaelic and traveled to Ireland. He was also well-known as a great father. Mr. Fitzsimons is survived by a large family, included among them his wife, Patricia; daughter, Colleen; and son, Sean. We salute Mr. Fitzsimons, a hero, and name this sweetheart dog in his honor.
