America's Beloved Heroes

JAKU was named for MARIA JAKUBIAK, who paid the ultimate price in the attack on America September 11, 2001. Maria Jakubiak, age 41, Ridgewood, New York, was employed in accounting with Marsh & McLennan Cos., Inc., where she worked on the 94th floor of Tower Two of the World Trade Center. An immigrant from Poland, Ms. Jakubiak was given a choice of countries. She chose the United States as her new country because she wanted to see the Statue of Liberty. She earned an Associate's degree and later went on to study at night for her Bachelor's degree. When her children started to get past the stage of needing mommy at home, she got her job at Marsh and McLennan. When an elevator incident rattled Ms. Jakubiak, her husband told her she could quit her job. She would not do so. She loved her job, especially mothering the new young graduate hires. Ms. Jakubiak is survived by her husband, Kazimierz; and three children. We salute Ms. Jakubiak, a hero, and name this beautiful dog in his honor.
