America's Beloved Heroes

SKY was named for GREGORY R. SIKORSKY, who paid the ultimate price in the attack on America September 11, 2001. Firefighter Gregory R. Sikorsky , 34, Spring Valley, York, was a firefighter with the FDNY. Before becoming a firefighter, he served in the Marines. A firefighter with Squad 41, he lost his life on the 43rd floor of the second tower of the World Trade Center. Firefighter Sikorsky had lots of hobbies, among them restoring an old firetruck , scuba and sky diving, and flying (He was a licensed pilot.). Close to our hearts, he also had a love of dogs. When Dominic, the firehouse Dalmatian, proved to be destructive and wreak havoc at the firehouse, Firefighter Sikorsky adopted him as his own dog. Dominic later was so obedient he was seen off leash following Firefighter Sikorsky to church and waiting outside for his master. He also loved children and was a Big Brother volunteer. A quiet man, Firefighter Sikorsky enjoyed reading about wars. His children were his shadows. Firefighter Sikorsky is survived by his wife, Narue; son, Steven, only 3 years old at the time of his father's tragic death; parents; brothers; and other relatives. Pet Harbor salutes Firefighter Sikorsky, a hero, and names this beautiful Siberian Husky in his honor.
