VANESSA was named for VANESSA LYNN KOLPAK, who paid the ultimate price in the attack on America September 11, 2001. Vanessa Lynn Kolpak, age 21, New York, New York, lost her life as she worked on the 89th Floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center. A 2001 graduate of Georgetown University with a degree in international commerce, Ms. Kolpak had just only a month before the tragedy begun a job as a financial researcher with Keefe, Bruyette & Woods. Her family said she was the type of person who was "so bright she barely had to study" and described her personality as "bubbly, positive and has a beautiful smile." Vanessa, a Greek word meaning butterfly, was also known for the openess and frequency with which she expressed her unconditional love of family and friends. She is survived by her parents, brother, and sister.
We salute Ms. Kolpak , a hero, and name this tiny beauty in her honor. (Source: The Chicago Tribune 9/14/01, The New York Times 12/22/01)
