WHITTINGTON was named for LESLIE A. WHITTINGTON, Ph.D., who paid the ultimate price in the attack on America September 11, 2001. Leslie Whittington, age 45, University Park, Maryland, was an associate professor of Georgetown University's Public Policy Institute. Dr. Whittington perished along with her children, 3-year-old Dana and 8-year-old Zoe, and husband, Charles. The family was headed to Australia aboard American Airlines flight 77 when the plane crashed into the Pentagon. Dr. Whittington took her Bachelor's degree from Regis College in Denver and Master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder. A published scholar, a teacher who expected the most from her students and got it, and a proud mother, Dr. Whittington was a very popular person. We salute Dr. Whittington, a hero, and name this fuzzy puppy in her honor. (Source: CNN 9/18/01, Maryland Newsline 9/23/01)
