ZOE was named for ZOE FALKENBERG, who paid the ultimate price in the attack on America September 11, 2001. Zoe Falkenberg, age 8, University Park, Maryland, lost her life along with her 3-year-old sister, Dana, and parents, Leslie Whittington and Charles Falkenberg, on American Airlines flight 77 as the plane crashed into the Pentagon. The young Ms. Falkenberg played soccer and was a talented singer who appeared in a community musical production. The family was en route to Australia on September 11. Zoe had talked often about the kangaroos and koalas in the months preceding the trip. Zoe's former schoolmates planted a plum tree at their school, University Park Elementary School, in memory of their classmate because she loved plums, they said. We salute Ms. Falkenberg, a hero, and name this happy tabby in her honor. (Source: The Washington Post 9/12/01, Maryland Newsline 9/23/01)
