UPDATE: September 11, 2006: We're combining two funds: the Kennel Fund and Shade/Shed Fund.
KENNEL FUND: Calls frequently come in for us to take homeless Siberian Huskies into our program. When we can, we do. Far too often, we can't because either we don't have the space, we have a dog in foster care who doesn't like other dogs, the dog we're being asked to take doesn't like other dogs, or the dog we're being asked to take has health issues that require separating him from the rest of the pack.
It's hard to say no to a dog who is homeless through no fault of his own. Where should a homeless Siberian Husky go when he can't come to us? He can't stay in the shelter indefinitely. In Virginia in 2004, 98,792 animals were euthanized in animal care facilities. Shelters have no choice. When a dog is running at large, he goes to the shelter. Some shelters ask rescue to help. When rescue can help, we do.
Therein lies the purpose for this page. We need your help. Please help us pay for our kennels so we can help more Siberian Huskies.
FUND UPDATED February 14, 2008. Scroll down.
Looking in confused and sad eyes to say, "I'm sorry. There's no room in foster care for you" is very difficult. So we sat down and tried to figure out a way we could save a few more. Our idea won't be THE solution, but it will help more Siberian Huskies than we could previously help.
We purchased a quadruple kennel, designed for strong, intelligent dogs like Siberian Huskies; had concrete poured to keep those same smart Siberians from digging out; and had covers put on top to keep Siberian Husky escape artists from escaping. We purchased the kennels and entered into a contract for the concrete. Volunteers assembled the kennels! We had food bowls and purchased flat-back water buckets to put on the kennel walls. UPDATE: June 24, 2005 the concrete was poured. July 23, 2005 the kennels were assembled. July 30, 2005 the roof was put on. The kennels are finished! September 6, 2006 Fairbanks chewed up his water bucket.
We ordered the Platinum Quad kennel from Options Plus. Because we are a rescue, they were super in giving us a discount. We used a local contractor for the concrete. The cost of the kennels & concrete came to $4,082, which completely wiped out our bank account. So that meant no money for veterinary care for any more animals we get. We have to replace the money we used for the kennels in order to be able to help any animals in the future.

SHADE/SHED FUND: Our foster dogs not in kennels had no shade. We figured since it takes so long for trees to grow, the quickest option was a gigantic structure that provided lots of shade. We also needed a shed to store crates and other donated items. We were able to combine the two needs into one structure.
We searched for the best and most inexpensive option. We found a company, U.S. Barn Builders, that gave us a discount because we are nonprofit. Our total price is $3,610. So, as noted above, we have wiped out our financial resources completely. In order to help more animals, we need your help.
The total fund is $4,082 for the kennels and $3,610 for the shade/shed. The $4,082 includes $2,402 for the kennels and covers and $1,680 for the concrete flooring. So the total fund is $7,692. If you can help, please send tax-deductible donations to
